BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Our Board is structured to be compliant with the requirements of the King IV code of corporate governance and ensures exceptional governance standards throughout Ngwedi.
Monei is a founding member of Ngwedi Investment Managers. Monei has over 17 years of experience in the investment management industry after starting her investment management career in February of 2002 when she joined Old Mutual Investment Group as a graduate in the Group’s Academy. In 2006 Monei was appointed as Investment Specialist at Old Mutual Corporate. Her progression was again evident in June 2010, when she was appointed as a Business Development Manager at Prescient Investment Management. It did not take long for Prescient to appointed Monei as Head of Institutional Business Development, responsible for institutional assets in excess of R65Bn. In her role at Prescient, Monei was responsible for growing the institutional book for the company, retaining the existing business, as well as client service. In 2014, Monei was appointed as an Executive Director and also became a member of the Executive Committee. Among other duties, Monei served as a member on the Board of Trustees and Chairperson of the Investment Committee of the Prescient Retirement Funds. She now fulfils the role of Chief Executive Officer at Ngwedi. She also currently serves on the Board of Directors of the South African Business Resources Institution (“SABRI”) as a Non-Executive Director. Monei holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance with Honours from the University of Cape Town.
Farzana is a founding member of Ngwedi. She is a CFA charter holder and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science with Honours and has over 16 years’ experience in the investment management industry. She joined Old Mutual Investment Group in 2002 and then moved to Prescient Investment Management in 2003. At Prescient she was an Executive Director as well as a senior portfolio manager responsible for money market, enhanced yield and income portfolio management. At Prescient she was instrumental in designing and improving the credit process. She has an expert knowledge of derivatives in the fixed income space, which she applies in the portfolios that she is responsible for. In her career Farzana has managed in excess of R50Bn in fixed income assets. At Ngwedi, Farzana fulfills the role of Chief Investment Officer.
Daniel is a founding member of Ngwedi. Daniel holds a Master’s degree in Finance, a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science with Honours, and has over 12 years’ experience in financial services. He has consulted to domestic and international banking conglomerates and insurers on various technical topics while at Oliver Wyman, a global management consulting firm. Daniel was the previous head of product development at Prescient Investment Management before taking on the role of Chief Executive Officer of Prescient Life. Daniel oversaw, managed and grew Prescient Life, which offered an investment platform providing discretionary and compulsory investment products in the form of collective investment schemes, investment-linked life policies and retirement funds. Daniel has considerable experience with start-up investment managers and has served as a trustee on the boards of several retail and umbrella retirement funds. At Ngwedi, Daniel fulfills the role of Chief Operating Officer.
Dudu is a Deputy Chief Executive Officer of MHMK Capital Limited. She has a wealth of experience in development finance, commercial and investment banking services, at senior and executive management positions, and has worked in Botswana, as well as internationally in The Gambia, Zimbabwe, and short assignments in India and England. Dudu headed Listing and Trading functions of the Botswana Stock Exchange before joining Norsad Finance Ltd (an impact investor with a focus on the SADC region), as Investment Principal. Dudu has served on the boards of various institutions in Botswana, either as a member of the main board or a member of board committees – Botswana Post, PEEPA, Botswana Tourism Organisation, CEDA, to mention but a few. Dudu holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Botswana, an MBA in Finance and Banking from the University of Manchester Business School, an Intermediate Diploma in Chinese Language (HSK 2) from the Confucius Institute/University of Botswana, in addition to being a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (UK), Fellow of the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants, and an Associate of the Botswana Institute of Bankers.
Dr. Ryan Kruger is an Associate Professor at the University of Cape Town. Ryan holds a PhD in Finance, a Master’s degree in Finance (Cum Laude) and a Bachelor’s degree in Finance with Honours, and lectures on numerous finance courses from Bachelors through to Masters and PhD. Ryan presents the core finance curriculum on the Modular MBA. He is a founding member of ACQuFRR, a research unit housed in the Commerce Faculty at the University of Cape Town, which focuses on African financial research which is relevant to local industry and more broadly in a global context. The ACQuFRR board comprises representatives from some of the major institutions in the local financial services industry including investment banks, asset managers and compliance companies. Ryan serves on the boards of several financial services companies and has consulted to such companies on quantitative research in respect of equity markets, both locally and globally, as well as local equity hedge funds. Finally, Ryan sits on the board of the Gallagher Foundation which is a US-based non-profit foundation which provides full scholarships to students from previously disadvantaged communities.
Terence joined Ecsponent Limited as CEO in September 2010 at the request of the group’s majority shareholder at the time. He served as COO from 1 December 2015 but was reinstated as CEO from 1 October 2016. Under his leadership, the group has achieved triple-digit growth for six consecutive years in its key performance areas. Terence has held various senior and board-level positions in diverse, cross-cultural environments. Prior to Ecsponent, he worked for prominent organisations such as Mercedes-Benz SA, AFGRI, Imperial and McCarthy. He has led teams at various JSE-listed companies, where he implemented turnaround strategies which involved a wide range of corporate actions. As an entrepreneur he was responsible for the development in South Africa of the Citroen and SsangYong organisations. As CEO of Ecsponent, he pours his expertise and strategic ability into driving the development and implementation of Ecsponent’s long-term strategy, which has resulted in the group evolving from a venture capital company, to an African Financial Services group with a footprint across sub-Sahara Africa.
